Means and ends
So that the objection we are upon does not lie against the doctrine of the necessity of events by a certainty of connection and consequence; on the contrary, it is truly forcible against the Arminian doctrine of contingence and self-determination; which is inconsistent with such a connection. If there be no connection between those events wherein virtue and vice consist, and any thing antecedent; then there is no connection between these events and any means or endeavours used in order to them; and if so, then those means must be in vain. The less there is of connection between foregoing things and following ones, so much the less there is between means and end, endeavours and success; and in the same proportion are means and endeavours ineffectual and in vain. Hi Mbg. I saw the blog icon on the one of your ekklesia postings and thougth I'd drop by. My goodness! this is some heady (but very good) stuff!
Just a word of encouragement though, this blog is still new so don't get discouraged if you don't get many contributers or comments for a while. Also, don't get discouraged because many are not at the same deep, contemplative stage in their walk with Christ as you are - it can get a little intimidating for some, not to mention leaving one feel as if he or she has nothing to add.
I will be dropping by from time to time; especially now that I am in the midst of the "Romans Wars" raging withing myself. Could always use a cerebral point of view for some extra ammunition for the fight.
In His Grip,
Casey
