Ps 58
1 Do you rulers indeed speak justly?
Do you judge uprightly among men?
2 No, in your heart you devise injustice,
and your hands mete out violence on the earth.
3 Even from birth the wicked go astray;
from the womb they are wayward and speak lies.
4 Their venom is like the venom of a snake,
like that of a cobra that has stopped its ears,
5 that will not heed the tune of the charmer,
however skillful the enchanter may be.
6 Break the teeth in their mouths, O God;
tear out, O LORD , the fangs of the lions!
7 Let them vanish like water that flows away;
when they draw the bow, let their arrows be blunted.
8 Like a slug melting away as it moves along,
like a stillborn child, may they not see the sun.
9 Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns-
whether they be green or dry-the wicked will be swept away. F112
10 The righteous will be glad when they are avenged,
when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 Then men will say,
"Surely the righteous still are rewarded;
surely there is a God who judges the earth."
We must understand that God has created all things by the word of His mouth. This creative method is what controls all things. In order for God to act as the supreme ruler over all governments He must create and sustain all things by a perfect description according to His attributes. Gods creation must be the exhibit of perfect symmetry and beauty. In this context God judges all other rulers of the earth.
In order for us to live in a perfect ordered society we must live in the communication of God that is the expression of His perfect will in unifying our desires in our full salvation. So Gods perfect description of His creation dwells in us. Everything that is out of order becomes a communication whether reveal or mysterious of our inward frustration. God has given us a communication of His power to unite our desires with His in the curse.
The bible teaches that all communication that opposes God has been devised by men who rule over other men. The voices that oppose salvation are kind of like a glass of filthy waters that are pour down from high places on the poor. In order for these schemes to become a part of the culture they must be taught in the context of a kind of spell. The highest authority is having the ability to repeat the false teaching to the most people in the most repetitive way. But this Psalm teaches that Gods curse upon the wicked is an eternal system that overrules all of the effects of decline of the culture.
The eternal curse is like an enforcement of the poor who are without power to effect the harsh circumstances that are created by despots. When we pronounce the curses we experience the same frustration as a snake handler who is unable to charm a snake. But Gods kingdom is not fully satisfied on this earth. All of the pronouncements that we pray are stored up in heaven and will be rewarded to us in the judgement. Ps 58 11 Then men will say,"Surely the righteous still are rewarded;surely there is a God who judges the earth." We will never be satisfied with the circumstances under earthly rulers. No matter how good we are at pointing out the corruption it will not change the course of this earth. This Psalm is teaching us that we must place all of our confidence through the curse in the final judgement. Only then will the future unity of the judgement visit our present circumstances.
