Experiencing the nearness of God is taught in the example of how God dealt with Israel. We are not an island unto ourselves. Every thing that we experience in this life is in the context of government. When God created the earth He gave man the responsibility to rule His creation. This is why He gave each man the governing ability by writing His law on their hearts. But God also allowed man to unite as a nation to govern the earth. One government cannot be overthrown. It is Gods government that is established through His covenants, laws, decrees, and curses. It is an absolute rule over all creation through His chosen people. But the earthly governments are under the judgement of God.
There is never a time where God will establish a nation that can oppose Him by their united efforts. Just as God dispersed the human race in the tower of babel so He establishes His curses on the earth in turning earthly governments upside down. God will not share His glory with any man...or God will not suffer any other gods. Even tho He addresses the rulers of the earth as gods, yet God never accepts mans abusive authority. The worse curses are spoken against the highest authorities. The principle is ..as a man rises up the ladder of success he must be the lowest of everyone. The active opposition of God is always greater from the top down.
When the world sinks into depravity then Gods people experience the same effects as Israel being dispersed among the nations. In other words they lose the enjoyment of being protected by the law of God so that they can be the most successful. The declension is a process by which they experience the violation of their rights and protections under Gods law. This means that they are abused like slaves. There is no excuse for any abuse. This is why God gave Israel the curses. When they glory in the curses as a result of the abusive circumstances of their slavery they store up wrath against their abusers for the day of judgement. In glorying in the curses they are saved from their anger and distress. We must always rest in the curses because we could be molded by the abuse and become a stumbling block in our self protection. The greatest experience of unity on this earth in our occupation is to have Gods law rule our society. Then no one will be opposing our highest purpose.
