Ps. 139 1 O LORD , you have searched me
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD" .
This Psalm is teaching that God orders every thought that we think and every action that we perform. Sit and rise are talking about a 24 hour period. We rise up in the morning and we go to sleep at night. This Psalmist has made it a practice to meditate on Gods word day and night. So he wakes up and begins to
mediate...throughout the day he prays and meditates, then we he lays down on his bed he mediates himself to sleep. Sometimes he wakes up in the early morning and finds himself meditating. His practice has been so ingrained that he finds himself not wanting to be alone so he sees meditation as talking to a real person. This person becomes someone who knows the Psalmist and answers him from an eternal perspective in the Psalmist mind like the Psalmist has been matched with someone who fits perfectly in a relationship.
Because the Psalmist focuses on God then he experiences unity and purpose as he goes about his daily routine. The actions the Psalmist performs are disconnect from the his experience of those actions. I call this performing actions that are motivated by the declaration of Gods justice. The word that is received is the pronouncements that are spoken in declaring a kingdom that cannot be thwarted. So the Psalmist actions are done in the confidence and the spirit of the pronouncements.
When the Psalmist mediates out loud he says that the Lord knows what how to use the pronouncement to unify the Psalmist experience with the glory and purposes of God. He knows the pronouncements of the Psalmist as a complete and perfect expression of His kingdom. This completeness in the meditation is one precept built upon another . The Psalmist views the world as it is artistically painted by how God views it. This is what I call ...instead of us seeking God ....God is coming at us in the experience. "You know it completely"
5 You hem me in-behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, F222 you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast"
The Psalmist is saying that Gods law is the instrument of the Psalmist pleasure. Gods law is self testifying. God does not argue like we do about what is the truth. Rather Gods law unites our desires that are the foundation of the expression of our needs. Gods law describes the sure foundation of His to defend us. We have a special ability to be illuminated so that we view Gods law as a defense for finding rest in having all of our needs met.The problem with sin is that man is never satisfied. The cursed diseases is man searching for things that are good but in the end will testify against the actions that they take. When the Psalmist is talking about being hemmed in ...He is describing the kingdom of God in which everyone is unified with the same purpose so that their needs are met and Gods glory is illuminated in that culture. Gods law is the instrument through which true success is experienced by walking down the narrow path of His bles
